The Migrant & Minority Integration Center of Irish CT&ID Center works on the social and economic inclusion of immigrants, refugees and minority communities in Ireland and Europe.
EMBRACING DIVERSITY - PROMOTING DIVERSITY ADVANTAGE
In MMIC at the ICTIDC we realize that recognizing diverse cultures involves not only openly embracing diversity in official discourses, but also opening institutions to various participants, and ensuring that they are open and flexible enough to innovate based on the feedback given by individuals from different backgrounds.
Diversity advantage is both a concept and an approach. It premises that diversity can be a source of innovation bringing valuable benefits to organisations, communities and businesses, when managed with competence and in the spirit of inclusion.
The diversity advantage is also the result of policies that unlock the potential of diversity while minimising the risks related to human mobility and cultural diversity.
MANAGING DIVERSITY VIA MIGRANT AND MINORITY INCLUSION
Emerging concepts of “super-diversity” or “hyper-diversity” in Europe represent new ways to capture the quantitative and qualitative complexities of European diversity. They challenge the traditional ways of looking at power relations between “national-majority” and “diverse-minority”, identity and diversity management. They emphasise the multiple aspects of identity, the multi-faceted roots of exclusion and segregation, and the need to design new policies and governance to address these challenges.
Diverse cultural perspectives can inspire creativity and drive innovation. Local social knowledge, insight and cultural sensitivity means higher quality, targeted marketing.
Diversity attracts human capital, encourages innovation, and ensures fairness and equal access to a variety of groups. The competitive advantage of European towns and thus the most promising approach to attaining economic success, lies in enhancing diversity within the society, economic base, and built environment.
Enhancing skills for Integration
In the Migrant & Minority Integration Center at ICTIDC we believe that it is important to recognize and correctly apply one's own abilities and potentials in order to get a foothold in society and in working life.
Our programs support adults and juveniles with a minority and migrant background in developing their personal strengths and obtaining social, linguistic and professional skills.
Our learners from minority, migrant and refugee background often plan and organize artistic, cultural or sports activities. This enables them to gather experiences which enhance their self-confidence, increase civil commitment, enhance equal opportunities in school and at work in Ireland, prevent crime and violence and acquire skills which are helpful for both work and social situations.
In Irish CT&ID Center we see the inclusion of all migrants and minorities as a continuous process of mobility and social inclusion. Such process is touching upon the institutions and mechanisms that promote development and growth within society, including early childhood care; elementary, post-secondary, and adult education systems; workforce development; health care; provision of government services to communities with linguistic diversity; and more.
We believe that successful integration contributes to building communities that are stronger economically and more inclusive socially and culturally.
We all benefit from migrant and minority integration.
People need maintenance and upgrades even more than machines do.
Retraining is maintenance.
Training is an upgrade.
Development is the next generation model.
